Melness is a small crofting village in the very north coast of Scotland, just off the popular NC500 route. It is a fantastic base to explore the surrounding area, either East or West.There are two fabulous mountains nearby for keen hillwalkers - Ben Loyal which is a Corbet know as The Queen of Scottish Mountains and Ben Hope which is the most northerly Munro.
There are also lots of local coastal walks taking in the stunning scenery.
There are several lovely beaches, all within walking distance although swimming is only for the brave!!
There is a hotel/ restaurant close by and there is also a well stocked shop/post office less than a mile away for your everyday essentials/ picnic or bbq supplies. This is also where you will find out if there are any local Ceilidhs or events taking place during your stay.
For the keen fishermen/ladies there are a huge range of local Lochs to try your hand in, permits are required for most of these.
A few miles further you will find the village of Tongue, with two hotels/bars serving excellent food and another small post office/shop.
Getting around a car is essential for getting about as public transport is not readily available
The Story of Island View Glamping Pods
Our wee Pods have been a family project over the last few years. Our son Michael has done the bulk of the work with his dad, in between their other full time jobs.
The Pods look out to the islands of Eilean Nan Ron and the curiously named Rabbit Islands which as far as we know has no rabbits on it, just sheep and seals.On a clear day you can also see the Orkneys in the distance.
You may also spot the resident Highland Cows across the road with their calves
